Estimator – Main Contractor 

Location: Bedford / Bedfordshire
Salary: £60,000 - £70,000 + Package
Job Type: Permanent

I am currently recruiting for an experienced Estimator on behalf of an established and reputable SME main contractor delivering a varied portfolio of construction projects across the region.

The contractor operates across a range of sectors including industrial and commercial, education, healthcare, residential and highways, with a project portfolio incorporating both new-build and refurbishment schemes.

This is a genuine opportunity for an experienced Estimator who is looking to join an established Main Contractor and play a key role within the estimating function. You must have a strong understanding of construction across the board and be capable of completing detailed take-offs and pricing from sub-structure through to internal finishes.

The Role

Working as part of the pre-construction team, you will be responsible for pricing a varied portfolio of construction projects and producing accurate, competitive tenders.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Reviewing tender drawings, specifications and documentation

- Completing full quantity take-offs

- Producing your own Bills of Quantities (BOQs)

- Estimating sub-structures and groundworks

- Pricing drainage and civils

- Estimating superstructure works

- Pricing internal finishes

- Obtaining and analysing subcontractor and supplier quotations

- Identifying risks, exclusions and potential opportunities

- Preparing accurate tender submissions

- Liaising with subcontractors, suppliers, clients and consultants

- Managing multiple tenders and deadlines

- Working closely with the wider commercial and pre-construction teams

About You

To be considered, you will need:

- Minimum 5 years' Estimating experience

- Proven experience working for a Main Contractor

- Ideally experience within an SME / regional contractor environment

- Strong understanding of the construction process from groundworks through to completion

- Ability to undertake detailed take-offs from drawings

- Experience producing BOQs

- Strong knowledge of sub-structures, drainage, civils, superstructures and internal finishes

- Good understanding of subcontractor procurement and tender returns

- Strong attention to detail and commercial awareness

- Full UK driving licence

- Own transport essential

Estimating Software

The company currently uses Causeway.

Experience with Causeway would be advantageous, particularly experience using the system for drawing take-offs and producing BOQs. However, previous experience with alternative estimating software will be considered, as the client is comfortable with an experienced Estimator picking up Causeway.

• £60,000 - £70,000 per annum
