Job Description:

Location: Bedford and surrounding areas

Salary: £35,000–£40,000, depending on experience

Working Hours: 7:30am–4:00pm

Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

The Role

We are recruiting an experienced Electrician to join an established electrical and mechanical contractor based in Bedford.

This is a varied position covering domestic and commercial projects within approximately a 50-mile radius of Bedford. Sites can include private homes, schools, care homes, hospitals and other commercial premises.

The successful candidate must be flexible, confident working independently and comfortable adapting to different sites and electrical installations. A significant amount of work is completed within schools during non-term periods.

Daily jobs and schedules are uploaded through a scheduling app, allowing engineers to download and review their allocated work each day.

Key Responsibilities

• Completing electrical installation, maintenance and minor works
• Working across domestic and commercial environments
• Installing metal and PVC containment systems
• Installing FP fire-performance and LSF cabling
• Working on electrical systems associated with mechanical control panels
• Reading drawings, specifications and job instructions
• Identifying and resolving electrical faults
• Completing work safely and to current electrical regulations
• Maintaining accurate records through the company’s scheduling system
• Communicating professionally with clients, site teams and other contractors
• Ensuring company vehicles, equipment and materials are used responsibly

Essential Requirements

• Valid 18th Edition qualification
• Strong experience with metal containment
• Strong experience with PVC containment
• Experience installing FP and LSF cabling
• Experience across domestic and commercial projects
• Clean UK driving licence
• Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload
• Willingness to travel to sites within approximately 50 miles of Bedford
• Professional and customer-focused approach

Desirable Requirements

• City & Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing qualification
• Experience working on mechanical control panels
• Current enhanced DBS certificate
• Previous experience in schools, hospitals or care homes

Candidates without a current DBS certificate will still be considered, as the company will arrange and pay for the required check.

Location and Travel

The company’s head office is based in Bedford, with projects generally located within a 50-mile radius. Candidates based in or around Bedford, Milton Keynes or Luton would be ideally located.

Travel time to and from site will be paid when projects fall outside the company’s standard Bedford mapping area.
